There are very few comedians who started comedy as teenagers, but Iglesias started stand-up comedy at the age of 19.

Producer and comedian Rudy Moreno remembers that he was the first person to book Iglesias at the Brave Bull Steak House in San Gabriel, California.

Iglesias approached Moreno for stage time back in 1997. “First time on stage he did a bunch of cartoon voices, and then I asked him what else do you got?” said Moreno. “I have impressions and I do fat jokes,” said Iglesias.

“Come back in two weeks,”  Moreno said.

Moreno then took him to a couple of gigs and booked him as an opening act. When he added him to the show Iglesias started getting a lot of attention. “Gabriel did every gig he could go to, birthday parties, backyards, a garage, any venue he could get up at,” said Moreno.

Iglesias landed a small part on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series “All That,” starring Amanda Bynes and Nick Cannon in 2000. However, it was after Iglesias appeared on Galavision’s Que Locos and the Que Locos Tour that propelled him into selling out clubs. He became even more famous after appearing on the TV show, “Stand-up Revolution,” and started doing arenas and traveling overseas.

Now, according to news.pollstar.com, Iglesias was the second highest paid touring comedian in 2022.

When Iglesias first started his comedy career he would often couch surf at Moreno’s house. “He ate everything I had and then fell asleep,” Moreno said.
